Programme Structure Overview
Advanced Film Scoring and Production is designed for experienced musicians, composers and producers who want to focus their work specifically on film, games and other media. The programme deepens your existing skills and connects composition, dramaturgy and music production in a demanding, coherent learning path. The focus is no longer on fundamentals, but on precision, stylistic confidence, sonic direction and a clearly profiled artistic identity.

We assess where you currently stand musically and technically, then focus the work on what your music still needs to reach Master’s-level standards: academically, artistically and in production.

We integrate composition and production at an advanced level. You refine your musical language and your DAW workflow so your score is dramaturgically coherent and sounds like a professional production.

You work with orchestral film music, hybrid scoring, electronic textures and modern media aesthetics. The goal is not only stylistic flexibility, but a clearer artistic voice that remains recognisably yours.

You learn in small groups with participants who already bring musical or production experience. This creates an atmosphere closer to a collegial studio environment than to an introductory course.

Your work goes beyond exercises. In the L.A. practical project, you collaborate with directing students from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, score real scenes and gain experience in international teamwork.

You can join live from anywhere or attend classes on campus in Bonn. Online and on-campus participants are fully integrated into cue work, mix feedback and discussion, with recordings available for later review.
Your Path to the Academy
We make it easy for you to understand the programme, show us your current level and find out whether Advanced Film Scoring and Production is the right next step towards a Master’s programme or a more professional artistic profile.
Attend our weekly, free online info session. Meet the team, ask your questions and get a first impression of how we teach advanced film scoring, production and showreel development.
For the personal profiling, you send us your CV and 2–3 musical works. These can be compositions, film cues, productions, band projects, solo works or other examples that show your current artistic and technical level.
In a 1:1 online profiling of approx. 2 hours, we listen to your work, talk about your goals and give you honest, differentiated feedback. Afterwards, you receive a clear recommendation on whether and how you can start the programme.
YOUR ADVANTAGES
The curriculum is designed to help you develop the skills needed to work as a film composer at an advanced level: a broader technical and compositional toolkit, a stronger artistic voice, and the ability to translate your ideas into convincing music for picture. Because every participant arrives with a different background, the learning path is strongly individualised and takes your previous experience seriously.

The Path to Professionalism

Here you’ll find answers to the most important questions about the program, application, entrance exam, and everyday study life.

We primarily work with Cubase as a solid production foundation. If you already work at an advanced level with another professional DAW such as Logic Pro , Reaper , or Digital Performer , you can continue using it in the program – we just won’t be able to offer technical support for your specific DAW. In addition, we use professional sample libraries and modern production tools.
There are typically 4–8 participants. Since participants usually already bring musical or production experience, the group often develops into a focused peer environment where feedback, exchange and professional comparison become an important part of the learning process.
