Inside musicube academy

Music, Film and Creative Development

The teaser reflects what musicube academy stands for: creative energy, musical development and the connection between composition, production and storytelling. It gives you a first impression of the world you will work in with us – with your own musical ideas, professional workflows, personal feedback and the goal of preparing your next step towards study or creative practice.

Programme Structure Overview

From existing skills to a focused artistic profile

Advanced Film Scoring and Production is designed for experienced musicians, composers and producers who want to focus their work specifically on film, games and other media. The programme deepens your existing skills and connects composition, dramaturgy and music production in a demanding, coherent learning path. The focus is no longer on fundamentals, but on precision, stylistic confidence, sonic direction and a clearly profiled artistic identity.

Individual Bridge to a Master’s Programme

Individual Bridge to a Master’s Programme

We assess where you currently stand musically and technically, then focus the work on what your music still needs to reach Master’s-level standards: academically, artistically and in production.

Composition & Production on Equal Footing

Composition & Production on Equal Footing

We integrate composition and production at an advanced level. You refine your musical language and your DAW workflow so your score is dramaturgically coherent and sounds like a professional production.

Sharpen Your Musical Signature

Sharpen Your Musical Signature

You work with orchestral film music, hybrid scoring, electronic textures and modern media aesthetics. The goal is not only stylistic flexibility, but a clearer artistic voice that remains recognisably yours.

Small, Experienced Groups & Peer Exchange

Small, Experienced Groups & Peer Exchange

You learn in small groups with participants who already bring musical or production experience. This creates an atmosphere closer to a collegial studio environment than to an introductory course.

L.A. Film Project & International Network

L.A. Film Project & International Network

Your work goes beyond exercises. In the L.A. practical project, you collaborate with directing students from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, score real scenes and gain experience in international teamwork.

Maximum Flexibility: Hybrid Learning

Maximum Flexibility: Hybrid Learning

You can join live from anywhere or attend classes on campus in Bonn. Online and on-campus participants are fully integrated into cue work, mix feedback and discussion, with recordings available for later review.

YOUR ADVANTAGES

Curriculum Overview

The curriculum is designed to help you develop the skills needed to work as a film composer at an advanced level: a broader technical and compositional toolkit, a stronger artistic voice, and the ability to translate your ideas into convincing music for picture. Because every participant arrives with a different background, the learning path is strongly individualised and takes your previous experience seriously.

Advanced Composition Studies, Harmony & Voice Leading

+
Species and harmonic counterpoint, style copies of chamber and orchestral music, advanced harmony, functional harmony II, Bach-style and Romantic chorale writing, further harmonic models and the dissolution of tonality.
Your advantage: You expand your compositional repertoire so you can shape meaning, tension and subtext in film with greater precision and stylistic confidence.

Music Production, Sonic Shaping & Workflow

+
State-of-the-art MIDI production, advanced DAW workflows, template design, orchestral and hybrid mockups, sound synthesis, sound design for film, mixing for large ensembles, space and depth, deliverables and stems for post-production.
Your advantage: You work with industry-standard production workflows and prepare your music for professional recording contexts, including orchestra sessions with highly professional orchestras working on Hollywood productions.

Film Scoring, Dramaturgy & Advanced Storytelling

+
Dramaturgy in film, spotting, musical function, timing and micro-timing to picture, hybrid writing, musical subtext, non-linear formats and games.
Your advantage: You learn to compose for more complex narrative arcs, longer formats and interactive contexts, while making conscious dramaturgical decisions in your music.

Style, Sound & Artistic Signature

+
Orchestral film music, modern hybrid scoring, electronic sound worlds, pop music, world music, genre awareness, sonic identity, musical references and the development of an individual profile.
Your advantage: You sharpen your artistic voice and develop the stylistic flexibility needed in today’s film music, so your work becomes not only technically stronger, but also more expressive and clearly identifiable as your own.

Film Scoring Practice, Network & Showreel

+
Film scoring practice with scenes and cues, writing for ensemble line-ups, score preparation, collaborations with Master’s film students from L.A., showreel development, portfolio preparation and responsible work in a creative team.
Your advantage: You turn real international collaboration into concrete showreel material that makes your artistic voice visible for Master’s applications, creative networks and professional commissions.

        Frequently asked questions & answers

Here you’ll find answers to the most important questions about the program, application, entrance exam, and everyday study life.

Can I take part fully online?

        +

Yes. The programme is designed as a hybrid format. You can take part online from anywhere or attend classes on campus in Bonn. Online participants are integrated into live sessions, cue work and feedback rounds, with recordings available afterwards.

Is this programme a good preparation for a Master’s application?

        +

Yes. Advanced Film Scoring and Production is specifically designed as a preparatory programme for Master’s studies in film scoring, media composition and music production. You refine your artistic profile, close technical gaps and build showreel material for admission procedures and professional opportunities.

Is there financial support available for this program?

        +

Yes. Many of our participants make use of private funding schemes , scholarships or other financing options. We will advise you personally on the options that may be available in your situation.

Which software is used in class?

        +

We primarily work with Cubase as a solid production foundation. If you already work at an advanced level with another professional DAW such as Logic Pro , Reaper , or Digital Performer , you can continue using it in the program – we just won’t be able to offer technical support for your specific DAW. In addition, we use professional sample libraries and modern production tools.

        How big are the groups?

        +

There are typically 4–8 participants. Since participants usually already bring musical or production experience, the group often develops into a focused peer environment where feedback, exchange and professional comparison become an important part of the learning process.
